Curb Your Enthusiasm For The Sports Crazed, ESPN Obsessed Man!!

ESPN is about to launch a webisodic series called Mayne Street, starring one of their comedic personalities, Kenny Mayne.  In the series teaser, you will recognize right away that the format and tone of the series is very similar to that of Curb Your Enthusiasm starring Larry David, the hilarious original series on HBO.  Check it out:

Although the show seems to have a reality format, it is really a semi-fictional scripted show.  But again, since it seems like it’s very similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm, there looks to be a lot of room for improvisation.  According the TubeFilter News, “In addition to the appearance of some big-name sports stars (Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics will be among them), Mayne is surrounded by a venerable cast of characters who have been in the comedy game for a long time. Jon Glaser (Baby Mama, Human Giant) plays Video Cowboy, Mayne’s camera guy,Alison Becker (Human Giant, Law and Order) plays Mayne’s producer, and Aubrey Plaza (30 Rock, Funny People) and Ben Schwartz (Robot Chicken) round out the cast playing off-the-wall ESPN execs.”

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of following they get with the show.  Is the ESPN audience one that watches webisodic series?  Or are they just statistical junkies obsessing over their fantasy football/basketball seasons??  The show launches today, November 11, 2008, so check it out and let us know what you think…
